The University of the South, founded in 1857, is situated on 10,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau, with waterfalls, wildflowers and sweeping scenic vistas.  Many of the buildings were modeled after ones on the Oxford College Campus in England- Gothic style, but cut from local sandstone.
